3D Rhino Commands – Guide #5

The 3D Rhino commands from this guide can be applied to your workflow and any project.

A command prompts the Rhino software to perform different functions to facilitate and speed 3D modeling. All commands can be entered into Rhino’s command line.

Rhino Commands in this Video:

SCALE – Proportionally scales objects to become bigger or smaller.

Activate the Scale command in the Transform menu, by selecting Scale, and clicking on Scale 3-D.

SCALE1D – Scales something in only 1 direction.

Activate the command in the Transform menu, choose Scale, and click on Scale 1-D.

SPLIT – Splits apart surfaces and lines.

Activate the Split command by selecting the Edit menu, and clicking on Split.

SWEEP1 – Creates thickness by sweeping a shape along a curve.

Activate the command in the Surface menu and click on Sweep 1 Rail.

SWEEP2 – Creates thickness by sweeping a shape along a curve.

Activate the Sweep2 Command by selecting Surface and clicking on Sweep 2 Rails.

TEXT – Creates text.

Activate the command in the Dimension menu and click on Text Block.

TRIM – Allows you to trim intersecting lines.

Activate the Trim command by selecting the Edit menu and click clicking Trim.

TURNTABLE – Automatically turns objects.

Activate the command in the View menu, choose Viewport Title, then Set Camera, and click on Turntable. 

UNITS – Changes the units of your workspace.

Activate the Units command by selecting File and cliking on Properties.

UNROLLSRF – Explodes a closed object into multiple planes. Great to set up a file for laser cutting!

Activate the command in the Surface manu and click on Unroll Developable Srf.

ZSA – Zooms-in on 1 object in all 4 viewports.

ZS – Zooms-in on 1 object the active viewport.
